Water Heaters
Get more from your hot water heater: a gas water heater provides virtually unlimited, on-demand hot water.

Because gas flames provide instant heat, a high-efficiency gas water heater heats more water per hour-and heats it twice as fast-as an electric water heater.
Electric water heaters cause more environmentally damaging emissions than gas water heaters when the source and efficiency of generating the electricity are compared to the emissions from gas water heaters. Compared to an electric water heater, a natural gas water heater will reduce your carbon emissions by one-third.
Gas water heaters are more efficient than ever, using 35 percent less gas than older models. That's significant savings when you consider that water heating is the second largest energy user in the home. Natural gas storage water heaters also hold more water than electric models.
There are two main types of natural gas water heaters:
Storage Water Heaters: Traditionally the most common type of water heater used in the United States, storage water heaters range in size from 20 to 80 gallons. Water is heated in an insulated tank and stored for use. When a hot water tap is turned on, hot water from the top of the tank is released. At the same time, cold water enters at the bottom, ensuring the tank is always full. Newer, more energy-efficient storage models can significantly reduce energy consumption, making them much less expensive to operate.
Tankless Water Heaters: Tankless water heaters have no storage tank; a burner heats water only when there is a demand for hot water. This can result in significant energy savings. Tankless water heaters are becoming increasingly popular due to their environmental benefits.
